Ancaster Heritage Days

The Ancaster branch of Meridian is excited to once again be participating in this year’s Ancaster Heritage Days event.

Ancaster Heritage Days is a week long celebration that brings the community together to celebrate all the people that make this neighbourhood such a wonderful place to live! Events for the week include a soap box derby, a Teen Scene area for teenagers to come together, lots of local entertainment and family-friendly activities for everyone to enjoy. And be sure to stop by Meridian’s Kids World, where your Ancaster branch team will be hosting lots of fun activities for children of all ages. The week caps off on Saturday, June 12th with a parade that we will also be participating in.

Be sure to come on out, make some new friends, meet up with old friends and get to know your Meridian team!

Hamilton 24 Festival

Meridian is proud to work in partnership with the Hamilton 24 Festival for the second year in a row. We have continued to support the Hamilton 24 Festival because it allows us to support the success of the Hamilton community.

The festival is a great event, which allows youth to showcase their talent in the arts through a range of mediums.

The festival runs from April 30 – May 14, 2010 in various locations around downtown Hamilton.

Watch the video below to hear more about this partnership from Barbara Gardiner, Branch Manager and Sean Jackson, President/CEO.

Cup of Tea Event

On Sunday, March 7th, Ancaster Branch Manager Barbara Gardiner attended the second annual Cup of Tea event held by the Zonta Club of Hamilton II to raise awareness of native women’s issues – in particular the issue of violence against native women – as part of International Women’s Day activities taking place around the world.

Founded in 1919, Zonta International is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women through service and advocacy. Zonta members volunteer their time, talents and money to local and international service projects, as well as scholarship and award programs aimed at furthering women's education, leadership and youth development. Locally, the club supports many organizations which enhance the status of women.

Women from the Native Women’s Centre participated by preparing the food, sharing information and providing entertainment from the aboriginal culture.

As part of the festivities, the 230 guests were served three cups of tea in traditional style: a pureed strawberry cold tea for health and good luck, a cedar tea to bring cleansing and clarity, and a green tea ice cream that brought a sweet end to the day. Participants also enjoyed a traditional lunch, complete with dense scones and two kinds of soup.
