About the CYL Summer Camp Program
Do you have a young friend or family member who would like to have some fun this summer?
Why not have them apply to the Co-operative Young Leaders Summer Camp Program!
Meridian will be sponsoring a number of young Meridian Credit Union Members to take part in various week-long programs throughout the summer of 2009!
Those lucky young Meridian Members will have the opportunity to spend a week at one of the Ontario Co-operative Association's CYL summer camp programs designed to bring your people ages 14–18 together from all across Ontario to learn about and practice communication and co-operative leadership through co-operative activities.
CYL = Change Your Life
CYL camp program has all the things that make summer camp fun—hikes, campfires, swimming, volleyball. But CYL camp offers so much more! Kids will learn how to be a leader and a team player—how to co-operate, solve problems, and improve their survival skills. And unlike many other summer camps, kids have a say in what happens. As a group, the kids help decide on social activities, sports, and the rules and regulations of their stay.
The goals of the CYL program are:
- to provide young people with a fantastic summer camp experience
- to develop leadership and communication skills and foster self-confidence
- to create a stronger awareness of co-ops and co-operative principles.
Where is CYL Camp?
All CYL sessions will be held at the Lake St. George Field Centre, south of Richmond Hill.
How much does the camp cost?
Total cost per participant ranges from $590 to $715; however, each participant is only responsible for paying $160, with the balance being sponsored by Meridian Credit Union.
How do Members apply?
Invite them to simply go to www.ontario.coop for detailed information and to download an application form. They'll just need to fill out the form and attach a short essay (minimum of 400 words), indicating their interest in attending the CYL camp program.
Deadline for applications is Friday, May 29, 2009 at 4:00 P.M. The Good Neighbour Program Allocations Committee will make the winning selections and all applicants will be notified no later than Friday, June 12, 2009.
