Interested in becoming a Director

Becoming a Director of Meridian

Meridian's governance principles and practices are formulated on the basis of a high performing Board of Directors. The Board charges the Nominating Committee with the task of seeking the best qualified candidates to fill vacancies that occur.

Orientation and continuing education

New directors are provided a comprehensive orientation to familiarize them with Meridian’s business operations and Governance processes.

The Board has approved a budget for ongoing director training and development, including educational sessions for the Board as a whole, industry-sponsored seminars and other conferences for individual Directors that are relevant to Meridian’s business.

Directors are required to actively seek out educational opportunities. Information about courses and conferences etc., that would benefit them in their role is provided.

Why become involved in seeking a Nomination

Perhaps you are driven to want to make a difference in your community or you simply want to give back to your credit union.  You may feel that you are particularly qualified in a certain area that could benefit Meridian, such as strategic leadership.  Or you seek an opportunity to learn some new skill or develop as a leader, enabling your personal growth.

Whatever your motivation is -- now is the time to learn more about Meridian's Nomination and candidate selection process.

Each year the Board assesses the strengths of the current Board and provides direction to the Nominating Committee as to which areas of expertise should be priorities for the upcoming election.

In 2010 the Nominating Committee was tasked with seeking to select nominees who not only are the best qualified and meet the required criteria but who also possess specific skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Financial accounting and financial reporting standards
  • Entrepreneurism
  • Economics, Treasury or Investment Services
