TORONTO (May 10, 2011) – Meridian, Ontario largest credit union, has raised nearly $10,000 in donations to help aid in relief efforts following the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan on March 11, 2011.
Meridian collected donations from its Members on behalf of the Ontario Credit Union Charitable Foundation’s (OCUCF) CanHelp program. Funds were collected from all Meridian branch locations from March 15, 2011 to April 30, 2011. All donations collected by the CanHelp program will be forwarded to the Canadian Red Cross.
In addition to the $4,760 collected in Member donations, Meridian has also provided a corporate donation of $5,000.
“I am continually impressed by the generosity and kindheartedness showcased by our Members,” said Sean Jackson, President and CEO, Meridian. “Meridian’s corporate donation along with the funds raised by our Members exemplifies the core values and spirit of the co-operative movement.”
While Meridian is no longer collecting donations on behalf of the CanHelp program, individuals interested in supporting the disaster relief efforts can do so by visiting www.redcross.ca.
