October 1, 2009 — Meridian elects new Board of Directors Chair
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the election of Erv Krause as the new Chair of Meridian Credit Union’s Board of Directors. Mr. Krause has held the position of Vice Chair since 2006, and has served the Credit Union in several roles as an elected officer for more than 30 years.
Mr. Krause was elected following the resignation of Kevin Sherwood, who has served as Meridian Chair since 2006.
Mr. Sherwood has a law practice in Port Elgin and, from time to time at the request of his clients, provides mortgage opinions to various financial institutions including Meridian. Under the new credit union act, which came into effect on October 1, 2009, anyone who acts in this role of providing mortgage opinions to a credit union is unable to sit on that credit union’s board of directors.
“It has been a privilege to have represented Meridian Members and to have served with my colleagues on the Meridian Board. It is a real honour to have been able to make a contribution to helping our Members build financially secure lives and futures in the communities we serve,” Mr. Sherwood said. Mr. Krause said that Kevin has played an instrumental role in helping to build Meridian into the organization it is today.
On behalf of the entire Board, I want to recognize and thank Kevin for his commitment and the tremendous contribution he has made to Meridian as both a Director and as Chair,” Mr. Krause said.
“Under Kevin’s leadership, Meridian has become recognized as a leader in the credit union and cooperative movement in Ontario and in Canada. Meridian is emerging from this recession with a strong balance sheet, record assets and in a better position than ever to deliver the financial services our Members need,” Krause said.
