What is governance?
- Good governance ensures that Meridian is run effectively so that Members' interests are safeguarded through effective financial and risk management.
- Reliable governance is about committing to the highest standards and demonstrating stewardship to Members, employees, and the communities we serve.Â
- Effective governance is pursued in a spirit of trust, teamwork, transparency, and professionalism that characterizes our governance processes. Â
Board of Directors
Meridian’s Board of Directors consists of twelve Members elected by the Membership through a nomination process and voting process using electronic or in-branch voting. We think a Board that works for its Members, who also happen to be shareholders, is a very good idea. It's just one more advantage you can count on when you become a Member of Meridian.
Board responsibility
Meridian’s Board of Directors is responsible for setting Meridian’s strategic direction, establishing policies and overseeing Management by:
- Ensuring that Meridian’s operations are managed in a sound and prudent manner.
- Assuring Members that all regulatory and statutory requirements are met.
- Monitoring the credit unions’ performance, and hiring, delegating authority to and assessing the performance of the President & CEO.
Every director is responsible for exercising independent judgment with honesty and integrity.
Board elections
Meridian Board Members are generally elected for 3 year terms. Every year Meridian holds Board elections to fill vacancies for expired terms or to fill other vacancies that may have occurred.
Annual General meeting
Meridian presents several business reports at our Annual General meeting. To ensure as many Members as possible can participate we broadcast the meeting live via a webcast.
We want to hear from you
As a Member-owner of Meridian you have a say in how we run things. We truly value your input and encourage you to ask questions and provide your feedback.
