Toronto, ON (November 8, 2021) – Meridian, Canada’s second largest credit union and Ontario’s largest, is the proud recipient of a Governance Professionals of Canada (GPC) Excellence in Governance Award (EGA). For the third consecutive year, Meridian has received an EGA for Board/Director Effectiveness.

“We are very honoured to be recognized for this prestigious award,” said Karen Farbridge, Meridian’s Board Chair. “It is a testament to Meridian’s management and governance teams for their deep commitment to continuously evolve our governance practices. I would also like to recognize the work of our Governance Committee under the leadership of its Chair, Hari Panday.”

“Our commitment to the highest standards of corporate governance is essential for continued success and enduring trust from our Members,” said Gary Genik, Interim President & CEO, Meridian.

The category of Board/Director Effectiveness recognizes best practices and innovations applied to ensure that board and committee composition, processes and time are actively managed to maximize their governance and strategic oversight functions. Judges cited Meridian’s highly comprehensive approach and leading practices in board orientation and education, agenda development, individual requirements, and board duties.

“Through a commitment to continuous improvement and an innovative approach to developing and implementing best practices, Meridian ensures we maintain a robust governance framework that truly serves our Members most effectively,” said Sunny Sodhi, Chief Strategy & Corporate Affairs Officer, Meridian.

The EGAs recognize the important contribution governance professionals make in terms of best practices that build and sustain shareholder and stakeholder value.
